Via Futura: Tram extension from Nations
#genève mobilité nations SGD ODD Public Consultation
By 2022, the extension of the tram from Nations will open new possibilities to access the heart of Geneva. The number 15 tram line will be extended along the Route de Ferney towards France, connecting Grand Saconnex with the Place des Nations in a first phase. Via Futura is a participatory initiative that is much more than just a discussion around the construction of a new tram line. It is an opportunity for us to be user centric and reflect more systematically about how we should rethink mobility to respond to environmental, economic and social challenges facing Greater Geneva.
This consultation is open to all residents, users and stakeholders within Greater Geneva. It is of particular interest to:
- anyone who feels concerned by the new transport infrastructure along the Route de Ferney including residents, employees, organisations, businesses and any other user groups
- anyone who is interested by the development of the Greater Geneva agglomeration
Local, Regional, Global
The tram extension touches upon multiple scales. At a local level, it directly concerns people that use the Route de Ferney. At a regional level, it takes account of the mobility expectations and needs of residents from Greater Geneva that regularly use the Route de Ferney. At a global level it relates to environmental challenges that ultimately impact the planet as we move towards smart mobility and changing lifestyles impacting travel choices amongst a truly international genevan population.
The perimeter of the tram extension passes through the heart of International Geneva, home to a great number of diplomatic missions, international organisations and different stakeholders from the International Geneva ecosystem that is fully engaged in the global sustainability agenda. The tram extension is an opportunity to bring together the urban development of Greater Geneva with the Sustainable Development Goals championed by the United Nations, most notably:
- 3 Good Health and Wellbeing
- 9 Industry Innovation and Infrastructure
- 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities
- 13 Climate Action
Themes
The future of mobility, energy transition, public space, places of interaction and connectivity, accessibility for people with reduced mobility, the link between international organisations and Greater Geneva, and other themes that emerge from public exchanges during the consultation process.
The consultation process
The consultation wants to explore how residents, associations, economic actors, international organisations and public authorities can co-create a sustainable mobility system that integrates local, regional and global challenges. The aim is to stimulate a discussion amongst large and diverse publics around mobility and new ways of commuting across Greater Geneva. The outcome of the consultation will inform decision making in relation to the tram extension around implementation, mobility strategy and user experience.
Between September and December 2019, urbz and Mobil'homme are interacting with users, organising exchanges, a workshop, a seminar, brainsotrmings and focus groups. The Decidim platform is an entry point to the consultation where you can find more information and also take part at your own convenience by filling in the survey and putting forward propositions.
